Before the sun rises, they are already awake.
Preparing meals, feeding families, and then stepping into the fields — sowing seeds, transplanting crops, carrying harvests, sorting grains, feeding livestock, and protecting the farm through changing seasons. Across India, women are involved in almost every stage of agriculture, from seed to storage, yet their work often goes unseen.
Today, women make up nearly 64.4% of India’s agricultural workforce. Yet, very few are recognised as “farmers.”
At Amratahaar, this reality has never been a statistic to us. It has always been our everyday life.
We grew up watching the women in our family move seamlessly between the farm and the home — working in the fields under the harsh afternoon sun and later cooking meals for everyone with the same hands that held the soil. Their knowledge did not come from books or trends. It came from generations of lived experience, traditional farming wisdom, and an instinctive understanding of the land.
In many parts of rural India, women are responsible for transplanting, weeding, harvesting, post-harvest processing, seed preservation, and livestock care. Even today, a large number of women in agriculture work as unpaid family labour, despite carrying enormous responsibility in food production.
And still, their strength remains quiet.
It lives in the way they rush to save crops during unexpected rains.
In the way they carefully choose the best grains for their families.
In the way they continue to nurture both the land and the people around them, often without recognition.
This quiet resilience is what inspired Amratahaar.
Our food is rooted in the belief that healthy food begins with healthy soil, honest farming, and the wisdom of women who have cared for the land for generations. The grains and pulses we grow on our farms are not just products — they carry stories of patience, sacrifice, nourishment, and deep respect for nature.
Today, as conversations around pure food, sustainable farming, and mindful living grow louder, we believe it is equally important to acknowledge the women who have upheld these values all along.
Because behind every nourishing meal, there is often a woman whose work the world forgot to name.
And maybe it’s time we finally did. 🌾
